In The Footsteps of Rymill

New Expedition

18 February 2013
14 DAYS

A particular focus of this expedition below the Antarctic Circle is to locate the site of the Southern Base of the celebrated British Graham Land Expedition (BGLE) from 1934-37, of which Australian, John Rymill was leader. As we journey south, we push somewhat further than normal, into the broad expanse of Marguerite Bay – a region where few ships venture due to unpredictable ice conditions. Here, on the edge of the bay, we hope to find the site of the expedition’s Southern Base. Well known South Australian winemaker, Peter Rymill (son of John Rymill) will be joining this special voyage and deliver a series of presentations about his father's exploits in the 1930's.
